Description

The Organizing Committee for the 2012 Robotics: Science and Systems Conference (RSS 2012) requests proposals for workshops and tutorials to be held as part of the conference at the University of Sydney, NSW, Australia.

This year workshops and tutorials will be tightly integrated into the conference. They will take place during the morning sessions of July 9-12. Regular paper talks and invited talks will take place during the afternoons of July 9-12, and morning of July 13. Workshops and tutorials can span one or two mornings and offer an ideal opportunity for longer technical talks to be presented in a themed session. Note that afternoon (regular paper) talks will be shorter than 20 minutes and will be given in conjunction with an e-poster.

RSS brings together researchers working on algorithmic or mathematical foundations of robotics, robotics applications, and the analysis of robotic systems. The workshops and tutorials have consistently provided high-quality, topically-focused forums for researchers at the forefront of robotics. We wish this to continue.

Submissions

Prospective workshop and tutorial organizers should email a brief, single-paragraph description of the proposed topic and a list of organizers by December 15, 2011.

A template for the final proposal which has to be submitted by February 1, 2012 will then be sent to you. This template will provide the expected constraints workshops and tutorials (including starting and ending times, coffee-breaks, capacity of available rooms) and will request information for the full proposal. As will be indicated in the template, the full proposal submission should include a title, an abstract appropriate for promotion of the event on the RSS website, a description of the proposed content, a tentative schedule and list of speakers, a plan for soliciting participation, a URL for the workshop or tutorial, and expected requirements for space and equipment, among others. We expect full proposals to be approximately 2-3 pages in length.

Full proposals for review will be due February 1, 2012. Full proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage early submissions. All decisions will be made by March 15, 2012. We recommend that workshops and tutorials be designed to promote discussion among the participants. Priority will be given to proposals that effectively address this issue.
